I looked over to Jett again. Each time I glanced to him, he seemed to grow even more downhearted. A strange feeling waltzed around my body. I had had enough and just wanted to do nothing more than rest. I just wanted to close my eyes and sleep, knowing that I was safe—for now. I scooted over a few inches across the chilly seat. He flinched with the sudden movement as though he didn’t know what was happening.

I tapped on his right arm that was gripped on the steering wheel. He looked over to me with a confused look, and I saw the wet marks around his sweet eyes. I smiled faintly, trying to make him do the same.

I tapped on it again and signaled him to lift it up. When he did, I grabbed it and slid closer to his chest and brought it around my side. The warmth from his body felt even more comforting than the city. And although it was masked with the smell of dirt, sweat, blood, and grass—the ever so charming scent that I had come to know as just
him
was still there. Telling me, that this was still the man I fell in love with and that this was really,
my
Jett.

I dug my head into his chest and closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath and letting out a painful sigh. His head dug into mine, and his heartbeat picked up. All that escaped his lips, was a small little whimper.

I wanted nothing more than this very moment of tenderness. Just until we arrived back home. No fighting, no more crying—just this. And I could tell when he let out a sound of relief, that he wanted the same. I rested my worn eyes not knowing if this meant that we were back together or not. I didn’t know what to make of it. I guess it’s one of those things where I’ll just have to wait and see.
“One must simply take the days of their lives as they happen,”
Angela’s words appeared in my head. I had the strongest feeling that I was going to have to live by that phrase now.

I opened my eyes for a brief moment to stare at the scenery we were leaving behind in the small side-mirror. I could have sworn there was a flash of a large bright red blur, almost the color of a strawberry, that was, and only for a moment, lighted by a street light—following after us in the dark sky. But it soon disappeared, leaving me to think that maybe—just once, I hadn’t seen a thing at all.

Jett’s hand around my side reached for the knob to turn to a new station on the radio. I was already slipping away, off to my dreams, and becoming less aware of my surroundings. However, just before I went further into my slumber, I felt Jett tense up as a woman on the radio reported live from the scene of a peculiar little accident that had just happened moments ago in a small city by the bay a few cities behind us.

“...driver of the vehicle says that before the accident he spotted a few large beasts, reported to be nearly six or seven feet tall, filing in from the shore. Authorities have just informed us moments ago, that the driver seemed to be heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident, and was only using it as an excuse of his reckless driving. Reporting live from the scene, I am
—Gasp!”
A thunderous snarl echoed into the microphone, and that was all we heard before everything fell to static.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I can usually be found nose-deep in a pile of various YA books, or behind a screen writing some. I'm a guy that isn't ashamed or afraid to admit that I love romance in novels. There's only a few of us out there that are brave enough to admit it—and I'm one of them. I know, it's basically like seeing a unicorn in the wild. haha. Visit me at
