Dakota laughs again and I give him a look. “I think people forget that Prez.” He shoots three in a row. I hear shots above us then nothing.

“I got this Prez. Is there a reason for the visit?” Driscoll asks and I almost laugh.

“I came to find my fuckin’ HS. The Security pussy went for gum and got himself shot then fired.”

He laughs. Hyde runs down the stairs. “Sorry Prez, I was moved here.”

I nod and turn around. Dakota follows me out throwing chin to the Brothers. I turn my bud on and Darren is pissed telling someone to get me wired.

“Prez to Prince Ops. PD is clear.”

“I see that. You riding to the Clinic or am I coming to get you?”

Jesus. “I’m riding to the Clinic. If anyone calls my old lady I’m fuckin’ shooting them.”

“Roger Prez.” I can tell he’s smiling. Dakota says ditto and I clench my jaw. “Roger Eagle Eye.” Now that we’re talking about it my arm is burning like a bastard. I see Dakota’s and know he’s feeling it too.

I keep a straight face and start my bike. “You good Brother?” He rolls his eyes at me and I laugh.

Epilogue
Two months

What the hell? I look at dogs that I don’t know sitting on my deck. My dad comes out with the boys. “Dad, what the fuck is with all the dogs?”

“Trainin’ ‘em for the Vets. Alex asked.”

Okay. “Why aren’t they at Alex’s?”

“It’s bath night. He’s comin’. Dogs go tomorrow.”

I nod, thinking he’s finally lost his mind. “You’re training for the Vets. Are these all from the pound?”

“Yeah. Got eight more comin’. Jeremy took one, it’s inside.”

I play that again. Jeremy took a dog and it’s inside with mine. “I need a bigger fuckin’ house.”

He laughs.

Jeremy comes out with a mangy looking dog and Lily. I walk to my girl and kiss her. “Tell me this is a bad dream.”

She laughs. “I wish. I was hoping to be your secretary.” I laugh. Mitch made her glasses that are sexy as fuck on her. She can see better and I’m always fuckin’ hard.

“I like secretary.” She laughs and I look over. Jesus. “Teller get off the dog.” The dog gives me a look. Fuckin’ dogs are too much. Phoenix and my dad laugh. I turn his way. He’s got him on a dog walking around like he’s riding a horse. “This better be a fuckin’ bad dream.” Lily snorts and Jeremy laugh.

Teller is laughing and Jeremy catches him just as he’s sliding sideways. Jesus. The dog starts following my dad and Phoenix in a circle like a carousel ride. I just shake my head. “When the fuck did my life turn into a circus? Do we have dinner babe?”

“Alex is bringing it.” I look at her to see if she’s kidding. She’s not.

Taylor comes up the stairs. “I wanted to see.” He’s laughing. Bastard. “Jessie told me he came by earlier and your dad was training them to take his shoes off and put them against the house in a line.”

I look toward the door, there’s eight pairs of shoes and boots lined up. I look at my dad’s feet; he’s got shoes on. I just shake my head. I’m not asking. Taylor goes in the house and Alpha and Omega come out and sit against the house watching the fuckin’ circus that’s become my life.

I hear a bike in between the house and wooded lot. Alex rides right up to the back porch. Jeremy is cracking up. Taylor comes out and drops his beer. Foam sprays everywhere. Lily is laughing. I look again to make sure I’m really seeing it. I really am.

“Can you get the bag ‘cause Prince squishes it if he jumps off with it,” Alex asks looking at me. Of course. I walk down the stairs and take the bag from the dog’s mouth. He pushes his paws against Alex’s shoulders and jumps off climbing up the stairs.

I hand the bag to a still laughing Lily, shaking my head. I just keep going and grab a beer and wine for her. I come out and I’m stunned again by all the dogs on the fuckin’ deck. At least mine are still against the house. I think they’re in shock too. “Dad, come eat. You can give them rides later.” Not a fuckin’ chance of that, but he brings Phoenix and sits. Jeremy brings Teller. They both keep them on their laps. I look at them and smile. They’re happy.

Uncle Danny comes up the steps and I’m thinking I need a ride. “What the fuck did you do with my shoes?”

My dad holds a grinder out to him. “Trainin’.”

Uncle Danny takes the sandwich and sits. “Think you can train them with your fuckin’ shoes? You took everything I have. I went for Ben’s, but his are gone too.”

I point to the door and he gets up and takes a pair of boots. “Only have two left. Was usin’ mine before, now they’re good, don’t chew ‘em.” Lily and Taylor are cracking up. I hand Taylor the bag and he takes a grinder. There are four extra and I’m hoping they are leftover and not expected mouths.

Uncle Danny goes in for beer and Pres comes up the stairs. “I don’t have any shoes.” Jeremy laughs and points to the door. He gets shoes on and sits. Fuck. They’re for intended mouths. “Why are my shoes here?”

“Trainin’.”

He looks at my father like he’s crazy. “You need to buy more fuckin’ shoes. You can’t just keep going in people’s rooms for their shoes.”

I look at Taylor hoping for one sane person. Lily is still laughing.

“You weren’t in ‘em.”

Uncle Danny laughs. “That’s true.”

“He came in our room last time. You should be telling him to leave our shoes alone.”

“Still weren’t in ‘em,” my dad says taking a bite.

“We were in bed! You need to learn fuckin’ boundaries!”

My dad gets pissed. “Didn’t take ‘em if you were in ‘em. Trainin’ for Vets needin’ help. Shoes ain’t nothin’ for you. Buy more.”

Uncle Danny nods smiling and Pres throws his hand up in the air. Jeremy and Alex are eating as if no one is saying a word. Lily and Taylor are laughing and I’m watching this as if I’m in a movie. This is not normal.

Jared and Kaleb come up the stairs. I just shake my head. “Whoa. What’s with the dogs?” Kaleb asks.

My dad looks at him. “Trainin’ for the Vets.”

They start talking and I eat my grinder that a dog carried in his mouth, with his paws on Alex’s shoulder, while on the back of a motorcycle.

My life couldn’t be more normal.

I am so fucked.

Lily grabs my hand. Her face is red from laughing and she has a huge smile on. I lean over and taste that smile. “Thank you for giving me this. I love being part of a family again.”

Fuck. I had visions of moving far away. “Anything babe.” Jeremy laughs and I kick him. His mangy dog growls at me.

Fuckin’ dogs.
